Four scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in Jilin province have been lauded by senior government officials including the provincial Party secretary, Bayin Chaolu, for their work in the province in technology and innovation.
At a meeting with the academics in the provincial capital Changchun, on Dec 10, Bayin Chaolu remarked, "Your research and findings have given us help in our economic transformation and improvements. You leading scientists have set a good example for other researchers and, we encourage you to apply your research findings to Jilin's socioeconomic development."
Jiang Chaoliang, Jilin's governor, said that the government will have more preferential policies and facilities for researchers and will encourage them to do more to develop the province.
This is China's top honor in the sciences or technology and engineering and CAS has presented it to 777 scientists since 1993, while CAE has recognized 852 researchers since 1994 and, as one of the recipients, Yu Jihong, an inorganic chemist at Jilin University, remarked, "It's a great honor and a great responsibility to be a member of the Academy of Sciences and I'll do my best to get more research results and help more young researchers to help Jilin and northeastern China develop."
Jiang Huilin, a CAE member and professor at the Changchun University of Science and Technology, said, "The government really supports us and I'm determined to become a leader in Jilin's science and technology with my team members and to make the optical technology industry bigger and stronger to benefit our development."
Two other new members were An Lijia, of CAS and a polymer physicist at the Changchun institute of applied chemistry and Jin Yining of CEA, an expert in veterinary virology at the Military Medical Sciences Academy's Changchun military veterinary research institute.
