The sixth Heilongjiang University Students Snow Sculpture Competition kicked off at Sun Island in Harbin on Dec 10.
The competition will last four days until Dec 13; and it's the first snow sculpture activity of the 31st Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo.
Sponsored by the organization committee of Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo and the Education Department of Heilongjiang province, the competition is aimed at promoting Heilongjiang’s ice and snow tourism.
A total of 35 teams from 29 universities in Heilongjiang who passed preliminary assessments for snow sculpture designs take part in the four-day competition. The majority of the participants were students and teachers from Northeast Forestry University, Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Heilongjiang University, Harbin Huade College, Daqing Normal College and Qiqihar University.
Participants will carve snow sculptures on blocks of snow measuring 3-meters long and 3-meters wide.
Awards in eight different categories will be authorized for teams and individuals who perform well.
The winners of the first and second prizes will represent Heilongjiang in the sixth National University Students Snow Sculpture Competition, which will be held at Sun Island on from Jan 4 to 7.
