Song Xibin, mayor of Harbin, met with the director of the Palace Museum, Shan Jixiang, in Harbin, Heilongjiang province on Nov 22.
Song expressed his view that history and culture are the soul of a city. Song claimed that Harbin is rich in music, art and architecture and has always attached great importance to the protection of the city’s historical and cultural legacy.
Song urged better protection and management of historical relics, and for people to take better care of the city where they live.
Song said that the lecture given by director Shan would be of benefit to people in Harbin, and would encourage them to expand their minds. Shan gave a lecture on the city’s construction and cultural heritage initiatives. He promised that he would give more support to Harbin on the protection and management of the city’s heritage.
Shan expressed his view that Harbin is a national-level historical and cultural city, with lots of valuable historic and cultural relics.
He said that the Palace Museum is willing to work together with Harbin to give more care and protection to cultural relics in the city.
