Located in Huangshan City, the Tunxi Ancient Street has centuries of history. Originally built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the remaining shops on the street date back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The 1,273 meter long street is paved with large flagstones. On either side are two and three storey buildings built in the Anhui Style of Stone foundations, brick walls, and grey tiled roofs. The shops are in the front of the first floor of the buildings with the workshops in the back. The second and third storeys are the living quarters.
Many of the shops on the street have been in business for over 100 years and are famous throughout China. The shops offer traditional Chinese art supplies, carvings, antiques, and souvenirs.
